The Love We Don’t See Scholarship Returns to Honor MLK

The Cerritos College Foundation announces a renewed commitment to offer a scholarship created last year by the nonprofit organization The Love We Don’t See. Cerritos College students who are working to further social justice initiatives or have been impacted by social or institutional injustice are encouraged to apply.

Students can apply for The Love We Don’t See Scholarship using the online application form available at https://forms.office.com/r/1WuN8hBuYN. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2022 at 5 pm PST.

The Love We Don’t See was founded by Cerritos College psychology alumnus Sylvester Ani (2016) to “bring love to life” through education, social justice, and community service initiatives. The organization also wants to further Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s last initiative, the Poor People’s campaign, which called for a Guaranteed Annual Income and highlighted how even though we are called upon to help disenfranchised communities, one day we must come to see that systems that produce disenfranchised communities need restructuring.

“We are likely to find that the problems of housing and education, instead of preceding the elimination of poverty, will themselves be affected if poverty is first abolished. The dignity of individuals will flourish when the decisions concerning their life are in their own hands, when they have the assurance that their income is stable and certain, and when they know that they have the means to seek self-improvement,” said Ani.
